Problem

Boxing Day: the entire Wal-Mart Store is without power. Holiday sales are being lost, freezers are warming...

Cause

Outdoor Main Substation Failure

Solution

Emergency call. Our staff come off holidays and get to work. Suppliers come off holiday and mobilize to bring us what we need: Emergency delivery from Toronto of a 53-foot trailer with a diesel back-up power generator large enough to run the entire Wal-Mart store. The store is open for business 16 hours later.

Stanson employees and partner companies work 72 hours straight to replace the failed Sub Station. An emergency Electrical Safety Authority inspection has the store back on the city power grid in 3 days.

Feedback

A Wal-Mart head office executive flies in from the USA to monitor progress."It usually takes 7 to 10 days to return a store with a failed Sub Station onto city power. Stanson Electric had our store operational on interim power in 16 hours, and fully on-line with city power in 3 days, during a holiday period – amazing!"

Cost

$203,000.00 (rounded)
Painstaking photographic documentation and a full report issued by Stanson Electric enabled Wal-Mart to obtain complete reimbursement of costs without protest from head office.

Problem

Business hours. The DiPietro brothers want to have brighter light fixtures installed but cannot close the grocery store during regular business hours. The work must be accomplished late at night, safely and carefully, around grocery shelves, fresh produce, delicatessen and meat counters.

Solution

More than a hundred 8’ light fixtures hung 15’ high have to be removed. Factoring in the owners’ desire for a brighter atmosphere AND cost-effectiveness, Stanson’s design calls for the installation of more than two hundred new 4’ energy-saving light fixtures.

Feedback

“After a trade has been in the store all night, our staff always has complaints about the mess they made... Stanson Electric was so clean, we hardly knew they were there. But every day we could see three new rows of lighting fixtures installed and the difference between the new and the old was remarkable in terms of light output. Our customers and staff liked the changes, and we like the monthly electrical bill savings."

Cost

$19,500.00 (rounded) The store was dramatically brighter yet energy consumption for lighting decreased 26.6%. The savings on their electricity bill covered the cost of installation in only 2 years.

Problem

An evening thunderstorm with heavy lightning. A building with 200+ apartment units experiences complete power outage.

Cause

Full Substation failure. Three main 13,800 Volt Fuses have blown and all 3-transformer core windings have shorted and flamed out. The main building ground must be replaced due to the magnitude of the lighting strike.

Solution

Emergency call. A call from Stanson secures emergency delivery of a 2500 kilowatt back-up diesel generator on a 53’ trailer. By noon the next day, the generator is connected and the tenants have electricity.

The vault door is removed and the damaged transformer and cabinet are moved out to the street by crane. A new Substation is installed and the vault door can be put back into place by millwright. With testing complete and all inspections passed by the Electrical Safety Authority, the generator can be disconnected and the apartment building is restored to city power in only 3 days.

Feedback

Ronkay Management contracts Stanson Electric to do preventative maintenance and as-needed repairs to the twin towers’ electrical systems and apartment units.

Cost
